This BEGINNERS/STARTER WEEKEND is all about technique, how the paint works, control of your brushes, the marks they make. What different techniques are needed for different effects. Composition, focal points, tonal values etc EVERYTHING YOU NEED to start painting. Painting is not just about paint on canvas or paper - it's about concepts, ideas, colours, atmosphere, subjects etc but this first course is ESSENTIAL to start painting. Once you have learnt all the basics THEN you can move on to Stage 2 and start developing your ideas. Stage 3 will take you further and re-confirm all you need to be an individual painter.
COURSE PROGRAMME
SATURDAY
Arrive 9.45-10.0am Refreshments in the upstairs lounge. Meet your fellow artists.
Introduction to JoeDaisy Studio and your Professional Artist.
10.30am Paints, brushes and equipment. KNOW YOUR EQUIPMENT. A complete
overview, explanation and
comparison of products. Every artist has their own space with professional easel, painting table and hi stool. ALL YOUR PROFESSIONAL MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED.
11.0am How to create an 'Interpretive Landscape' in acrylics on canvas. Professionally prepare your canvas for painting. Lesley paints with you - showing you composition, perspective, create a focal point, balance your colour and learn how to use your brush with different brush strokes.
12.30am Buffet Lunch in the Upstairs Lounge (Sometimes a barbecue in the summer) We cater for vegetarians and any special dietary requirements. During the day, there is a coffee machine, tea, herbal drinks, soft drinks, bottled water and wine available - along with nibbles and you are encouraged to make the Studio 'your home' for the weekend i.e take rests whenever you want to, walk around, look at the art books, look at the paintings and prints in the Gallery, sit and chat etc. We want you to feel as if you are at home but with the added bonus of every top quality Professional art material and facility you could desire!
1.30pm Carry on painting your landscape.
2.30pm THEN GO ON LOCATION. We go to the river, water mill and fantastic landscape in Mapledurham and create a drawing on paper. (If the weather is inclement and in Winter/Autumn, we do this in the studio).
4.0pm Discussion in the lounge about what size canvas you want to paint tomorrow. Up to size 100cm. You put an underpaint onto your canvas you are going to use tomorrow.
4.30pm Day Ends
COURSE PROGRAMME - SUNDAY
Arrive 9.30am Refreshments in the upstairs gallery. A discussion with yourselves on what - in particular - you feel you need to develop after yesterday's tuition.
10.00am Creating a Still Life. We create a 'still life' painting on canvas - you can chose which size canvas you feel comfortable with. Lesley guides you through the whole process and will paint along with you - if required.

1.30pm CARRY ON PAINTING YOUR STILL LIFE & concentrate on areas; composition, use of brush, use of colour, focal points etc - that you personally feel need development.
3.00 ASSESSMENT AND CHAT.
3.30pm. Collection of your paintings and drawings, plus your specially written and exclusive teaching manuals and a
poster size colour wheel to take away. Day Ends
This weekend course is a BEGINNERS STARTER weekend with Lesley painting with you. Most students come back for more specific
teaching but this is a great course to start with AND an exclusive opportunity to use top quality professional materials with tuition from an exceptionally talented and capable professional artist. WHO DOES NOT IMPOSE HER WILL ON YOU!! BUT ENCOURAGES THE ARTIST IN YOU!
