Students create two/three paintings and a drawing during
the weekend
- this is just a small sample of works.
ARTISTS CHOSE WHAT THEY WANT TO PAINT and we
teach them anything from portraits to landscapes, geometrics
to complicated abstracts/contemporary work
A very very sensational portrait - Oct 27/28th weekend The artist said:
"I really enjoyed it! Was so proud to complete
the picture – and without your help on the colours and
glazing tips I never would have done it so well"
DECEMBER 8/9th One of the last weekends of 2007
WAS GREAT!!
Immense talent!!
Very complicated painting - that is slowly developing.
This the second visit of this lovely lady.
Own composition - inspired by the Mapledurham Watermill
This is by a gentleman who had
never painted before - isn't it sensational?
Fantastic achievement
Students paint whatever they want to. We don't tell you
what to paint but you chose. This was some quite complicated
exploratory contemporary work in oils and acrylics. An original composition
A Tuscany scene with a wash sky and thick texture poppies.
Quite a complicated Autumn scene. The artist used our 'tonal'
lesson to achieve light and depth.
This is acrylic - although it looks like watercolour. We used
wet on wet and glazing techniques.
Wonderful brush strokes and real depth in this stunning painting. We teach you how to get depth into your painting.
This is actually a fantastic painting - first of all drawn on paper, in charcoal
- on location to ascertain tonal values and then
painted on canvas, in the Studio from the working drawing.
A difficult task but carried out sensationally by this artist.
Just look at the clever colour combination and brush strokes.
We show you how to use different brushes and balance
your colour.
This is a very complicated painting with many layers of colour. We showed the artist how to use colour, wet on wet and glazing techniques.
This is a still life we set up in the studio. Composition is very important
Brushes play an important part in your painting
Brushes and palette knife painting in acrylics
Isn't this great? We experimented with some 'iridescent' colours.
Not finished of course but a very talented lady who took on board
everything we taught her.
'Block' painting is quite difficult on this unfinished painting
Rose was on her second visit - she is becoming braver
and braver and look at this stunning painting - not finished of course! Rose said: You really are an excellent teacher...allowing each
member in the
group to develop individual style,
sharing your time equally between all of
us ( no favourites, very important!) In fact, you were
really like some kind
of super painting angel flitting
between us all offering advice and making
suggestions, lifting flagging spirits as we all wrestled
with this desire to
create ! Thank you so much !
This is another painting by Rose - Isn't it great
- very Kandinsky! (Kandinsky was recognised as the first true
abstract artist
- you will learn more about him (and FROM him)
on the course!)
An original composition and colour
She said: "I arrived at the studio totally clueless and
I've come away with so much knowledge. In just 2 days,
its quite unbelievable but I am very keen to learn more.
I now look at paintings in a totally different way
and I have joined the arts club at work"
Excellent interpretive style on this still life and
very complicated painting techniques
Again a horrible photo(!!) It's photographing into the
light of course (not good) but this painting has lots of
technique and was painstakingly created with flair
and very clever brush strokes.
This artist is more used to collage than paint
and was only on one day of the weekend
but showed talent and ability
Lots of technique
and a portrait (especially yourself!) is one of the most difficult
subjects to tackle.
and quite rightly(!) he wanted to see his masterpiece from afar
- so took it into the car park. Thanks Richard for the fun and
exceptional talent!
Very lovely and competent brush strokes on this stunning
floral painting. Our special composition techniques ensures
a well composed and proportioned picture.
This is an original composition inspired by a red rose
It's great to have artists composing original paintings
- this very talented Architect has created some wonderful
installation based art works. We taught him some
composition rules and a professional approach to paint.
Can you believe this
painting started off with a very
dark paynes grey wash? Come to us to learn how to paint professionally
After our lesson in composition, this lady composed a very harmonious picture and quickly took to the wet on
wet and glazing painting techniques.
Nowhere near
finished of course
but it will be a stunner!
This was our first challenge - a painting exercise,
with acrylics, using the wet on wet method, which
illustrated the power of one brush and a limited palette
- the students were encouraged to explore colour; quickly, spontaneously and with passion!
This artist was so excellent at building up the colour
and form, that the painting did not get finished in the weekend
A very credible oil painting by a first time artist
A Still life class

A complete beginner who took on board everything we taught her
A sensational oil painting from an artist currently studying art at art school who came to us to learn techniques - because apparently art schools don't teach technique any more - weird!
This is fantastic brush control and blending in acrylics - so if anyone tells you - you can't blend acrylic - let us show you how!
Painting is actually complicated and you need to construct your painting with care and special techniques.
The same still life, interpreted differently.
Mixing and balancing colour is essential
Wonderful colours, beautifully painted with
the wet on wet and glazing techniques.
Everyone interprets a Still Life differently.
It's important to interpret in your own way.

If you look at this wonderfully created
painting carefully,
you can see it is the scene from the Studio window.
