TYPICAL PROGRAMME
SATURDAY (All times are approximate)
Arrive 9.30-9.45am Get together in our upstairs lounge, meet your fellow artists. Have a cup of tea or coffee, or water or even wine!!
10.0am Your tutor explains the course and introduces you to the Studio. No-one lives here, (although it looks like a beautiful house!) it is just a studio and is your "home" for the weekend. So relax and enjoy!
10.10am Choose your place in the painting studio. Every place is the same, with professional paints, brushes etc. Everyone has their own professional easel, painting table and high stool. Your tutor explains which are the best products to use and tells you why.
10.15am Your tutor paints with you, a landscape in acrylics. The "inspiration" is a photograph. You are taught how to handle your brush & which brush to use. Painting techniques are explained;, how to paint wet on wet blending, how to paint in glazes, how to let the "paint lie" etc
You are shown how to create a "professional product". Simple composition, perspective, tonal values and focal points are all explained.
Everyone works at their own pace and each student is encouraged to paint their own way. (We do NOT teach you to paint like us!! But just show your professional techniques)
We are not here to "Judge" you - just to help you create a professional painting!
12.30pm LUNCH In the upstairs lounge or outside on a good day. We provide a lovely fresh buffet with fresh food, meats and cheeses, salads etc. We are suitable for vegetarians but if you have a special diet, let us know. Tea, coffe, water, soft drinks, red and white wine are available.
1.0pm Back to the painting. (If you have had a glass of wine you may find you are painting even better this afternoon!!!
4.0-4.30pm We talk about what you are going to do next day. Day ends
SUNDAY - 2ND DAY
Arrive 9.30am. We start early this morning and finish about 3.30pm, so that students who have long journey home can leave in daylight.
We start learning a little drawing and proportion (as you know we provide essential tips to create a great painting). Draw out our new composition which will often be a still life today. Or, if you have something you want to create today - bring it along. This could be a photograph or drawings you have done - or even a painting by a "famous" artist. Your tutor will advise if you have brought something that is not suitable - i.e in composition or in difficulty.
12.0-12.30pm LUNCH In the upstairs lounge or outside on a good day. We provide a lovely fresh buffet with fresh food, meats and cheeses, salads etc. We are suitable for vegetarians but if you have a special diet, let us know. Tea, coffe, water, soft drinks, red and white wine are available.
1.0pm Back to painting
3.15pm Critique your paintings. It's time for everyone to see what we have all created and go "ooooh" "aaah" ..............!!!
Day ends. Time to collect your paintings and say goodbye (very sad) but most people come back again and again!
This is a "Beginners" Painting weekend where your tutor does not impose his/her will on you but encourages you to paint "LIKE YOU" with enjoyment, encouragement and in a relaxed, friendly environment. Most students come back for further teaching in Stage 2 and Stage 3 - for which there is a 10% discount for any returners.
WE REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU!!!!! |
