So the courses are not 'prescriptive' but designed
to help you learn to paint.

May seem odd to say 'Any Level' and 'Stage 3' but it's true! It's often good to start painting with the 'right thinking' and this weekend is all about 'thinking', Interpretation and development. Even if you have never 'held a paintbrush' before, Caroline will get you painting professionally. DO NOT WORRY - Caroline never lets anyone get out of their depth but if you want a more challenging painting course where you use your brain as well as your hands - this is the one!

Your style is what makes you special and the word 'contemporary' means 'of the moment'.
Having your own style is what is important in being an artist.
So this weekend is all about 'Interpretation', 'Concepts' and learning to 'See and Interpret'
You learn everything from the beginning but Caroline shows you how to 'Interpret'. Don't worry - this is not a difficult weekend - it is the next step to being an artist. Or it could be the first step because Caroline shows you right from the beginning how to be an artist in your own style.
The emphasis is on; interpretation, concepts, composition, tonal values, colour balance, focal points, brush marks, how the paint works etc.
You also paint on a hand made canvas. Made by us - so a superior canvas - up to size 40" - 100cm. You can chose your size.

SATURDAY
Arrive 9.45-10.0am Refreshments in the upstairs lounge. Meet your fellow artists.
Introduction to JoeDaisy Studio and your Professional Artist.
10.30am Paints, brushes and equipment. KNOW YOUR EQUIPMENT. A complete
overview, explanation and
comparison of products. Every artist has their own space with professional easel, painting table and hi stool. ALL YOUR PROFESSIONAL MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED.
11.0am Caroline shows you how to 'Interpret' and to develop your 'concept'. We paint in acrylic for the first session. Caroline shows you how to prepare your canvas for painting. How to develop your 'concept' with examples of paintings from famous artists and understanding of their concepts. You all work from one image but are shown how to develop your own style and interpretation. DO NOT WORRY. Caroline takes you through everything, carefully, accurately and concisely. You learn composition, create a focal point, balance your colour, tonal values, interpretation and how to use your brush with different brush strokes.
12.30am Buffet Lunch in the Upstairs Gallery (Sometimes a barbecue in the summer) We cater for vegetarians and any special dietary requirements. During the day, there is a coffee machine, tea, herbal drinks, soft drinks, bottled water and wine available - along with nibbles and you are encouraged to make the Studio 'your home' for the weekend i.e take rests whenever you want to, walk around, look at the art books, look at the paintings and prints in the Gallery, sit and chat etc. We want you to feel as if you are at home but with the added bonus of every top quality Professional art material and facility you could desire!
2.0pm We go on location to Mapledurham and learn how to make a 'landscape' into a contemporary form.We make some working drawings in pastel or charcoal. (If weather is inclement we will do this in the Studio)
3.30pm Put your working drawing onto canvas.
4.30pm Discussion about tomorrows 'big' painting on a hand made canvas. We prepare our canvas.
5.0-5.30pm Day Ends
